According to Secretary of State, GDL is a driver licensing system designed to teach teens to drive by gradually increasing their driving privileges as they advance through the system. To learn more about Michigan Graduated Driver Licensing, Secretary of State provides a booklet that you or your parents can read and understand. To make sure you are eligible, you can check this timeline provided by the Secretary of State.

GDL consists of:

• Two segments of driver education instruction
• Three licensing levels.
